A lifelong resident of Chester, PA, the oldest of ten children born to Joseph and Doris Lewis, Dr. Lewis-West became a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church located at 2nd & Norris Street in Chester, PA at two months of age, followed the Church when it moved the congregation to St. Katherine Drexel on Providence Avenue in Chester, PA.
Her secondary education began at Springfield College, Wilmington, Delaware Campus, where she earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Human Services as a Summa Cum Laude graduate. Dr. Lewis-West continued at Springfield College, earning a Master of Science in Human Services.
Dr. Lewis-West's next educational endeavor was to earn a Doctor of Education Degree with a concentration in Education Administration from Widener University, Chester, PA. She continued her education by attending numerous educational workshops, conferences and making presentations that reflect her concerns for African American Youth. She believes that learning is a lifelong process.
Currently, Dr. Lewis-West serves as Associate Professor in the Master of Education program in the School of Adult and Continuing Education at Lincoln University in Philadelphia, PA. She is an advisor for Kappa Delta Pi, the National Education Honor Society Chapter Tau Zeta at Lincoln University. She teaches in the Early Childhood Program and the Educational Leadership Program. She states her passion for education comes from the years spent working in Chester Upland School District (CUSD) in several support positions.
From 1996 to 2004, Dr. Lewis-West served as an elected official on Chester, PA City Council, where she was the director of several Chester city departments. Her commitment in this position was to serve the people in the city by first putting an enormous effort into cleaning up the main and side streets of debris and giving the people of the city a voice in the departments she managed.
Dr. Lewis-West fervently believes that education is a lifelong process and that each of us owes ourselves a commitment to the learning process as long as we have breath. The message Patricia lives by is “Help Somebody.”
