LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, Pa. – The Lincoln University Concert Choir has been invited to sing the National Anthem virtually at the Pittsburgh Steelers vs. Cleveland Browns football game on Sunday, October 18 at 1 p.m.
"The Lincoln University Concert Choir will showcase the leaders that this school is developing in and out of the classroom," said Alana Ward, a senior nursing major from Trotwood, Ohio.
"This not only enhances my performance skills, but it also expands my leadership skills."
To create the virtual performance, the Office of Information Technology technician Brian Bernas combined a recording of eight residential students performing at the Mary Dod Brown Memorial Chapel with voices from the choir members off-campus.
Dr. Camilla Horne, director of choral activities, said, “Despite not being able to rehearse or perform together in person, I am extremely proud of the Choir members for working diligently to keep the choir’s ‘community spirit’ alive and their musical excellence at the highest level. In the midst of a global pandemic, this performance showcases the singers’ resilience and bond, which they will continue to put at the forefront as they keep the Lincoln Legacy moving forward in song!”
This won’t be the first time the choir performs the National Anthem at a professional sporting event; less than a year ago, on Dec. 22, the choir performed at the Philadelphia Eagles vs. Dallas Cowboys football game. Additionally, for two years in a row, in both 2018 and 2019, the choir performed the National Anthem at Philadelphia Phillies home baseball game at Citizens Bank Park.
Explaining the choir’s selection, John Wodarek of the Steelers event operations staff said, “We are excited and honored to highlight your University and a PA staple against our rivals in Ohio!”
The Anthem will air in Heinz Stadium and online on the Steelers social media platforms.
Choir membership is open to students of all levels and from any major. Learn more about auditioning for the Concert Choir.
