Military Tuition Assistance

Tuition Assistance is a tuition reimbursement program where payments are made directly to the university by your branch of military service. You are responsible for any costs over and above what your eligible TA benefits provide. Here’s how it works.

  • TA is exclusive to currently serving members of the Armed Forces. If your ETS date falls during the academic semester you will not get TA for that semester.
  • TA is requested on a course-by-course basis, and each course must be part of an approved degree program.
  • TA cannot be used for a lateral degree (you cannot use TA to earn a 2nd bachelor’s degree)
  • TA can be reimbursed for up to 100% of the course cost, not to exceed $250 per semester credit hour. Additional fees that are part of the cost of attendance such as technology fees, and lab/class fees are not included.
  • This benefit may not exceed 18 credit hours or $4,500 per fiscal year (Oct. 1 - Sept. 30).

Service members should speak with their Educational Services Officer (ESO) at their unit/command before enrolling at Lincoln.

Am I Eligible?

To qualify for these benefits, you must be a member of the active duty or reserve component of the U.S. Armed Forces. Each military branch has its own tuition assistance application form and procedures. Check out your branch to learn more.

For each term, service members can begin requesting TA 60 days before the start of classes.

All TA requests must be submitted and approved at least seven days before the start of classes each semester to allow time for processing. TA requests submitted fewer than seven business days before the start date and that are not approved before the start date will not be considered for TA funding for that term.

Return Policy for Unearned TA Funds

Lincoln University has a policy that returns any unearned Military Tuition Assistance (TA) funds on a proportional basis through the 60 percent portion of the period for which the funds were provided. TA funds are earned proportionally during an enrollment period, with unearned funds returned based upon when a student stops attending. In instances when a Service member stops attending due to a military service obligation, Lincoln will work with the affected Service member to identify solutions that will not result in a student debt for the returned portion.

Time student stopped attending % of course, completed % of TA funds returned to branch
Before day one of course 0% 100%
On or after the first day of the course >0% <100%
On the day that exactly 60% of course days are complete 60% 40%
On the day after 60% of course days are completed >60.0% 0%
